Mount Zion Baptist Church was founded by the late Pastor Eddie C. Whitehead, Sr. in Bristol, CT at 29 Nicholas Drive on October 1, 1979. Pastor Whitehead's origin in the ministry started at Mount Hebron in Meriden, CT where he served as an associate minister with the late Rev. Frederick Hicks. It was with the blessings of Rev. Hicks that Mount Zion came into existence. Along with his wife, Sister Minnie B. Whitehead and several other people, Mount Zion began to multiply and regular services were moved to Hubbell School, located on Washington St. in Bristol, CT. The Pastor's vision was to have the first Missionary Baptist church within the town lines of Bristol, CT.
In 1999, Pastor Whitehead was offered a temporary place of worship by Pastor Jim Caron of Faith Bible Church in Plainville, CT. The offer was for Mount Zion to reside there until a new church home was found. The offer, not only help Mount Zion financially, but more importantly, the spiritual friendship and the bond with Faith Bible was priceless. Mount Zion will forever be grateful to Pastor Caron and the Faith Bible family for their patience and their belief in our existence.
In 2000, with his continuing efforts to make the vision a reality, Pastor Whitehead sought to find new strength with the liking of a young Joshua. In his search he found Associate Minister Terrace Johnson, formerly of Mount Hebron in Meriden, CT.
On October 1, 2001, Reverend Terrace Johson was installed as Co-Pastor of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
On Decemeber 29, 2003, Mount Zion walked into their new church home, located at 618 Stafford Ave in Bristol, CT.
